JC Penney, 34th Street
There is a new JC Penney on 34th Street in the Manhattan Mall. It’s massive. I haven’t been inside yet, but I am convinced that these people are doing God’s work.
They have underground entrances that open towards the 33rd Street PATH and right outside the 34th Street subway. This area is also known, during summer time, as Lucifer’s Teat. It is the hottest, sweatiest, stickiest place I have found during two New York summers.
It is also a place through which I walk every. single. weekday. Often twice, depending on which route I want to take to the office.
JC Penney is spouting some of the most serious and amazing air conditioning that I have ever felt. It makes me feel alive every day—and that’s almost enough to convince me to go inside, but that would only lead to conspicuous consumption and my getting to work very late.
Until then, thank you Jesus. And thank you JC Penney.
